For those who have criticized the book for being too short. This is a novella and not a standard novel. As such it is going to be shorter and without any subplots. As the title implies this book is about zombies and is typical of the genre and is aptly named `origins' in that it is mostly about how a zombie infection breaks out and why. Even though the book is short the characters are three dimensional with the author providing enough of a backstory for the characters to make them interesting.
The story is told from third person. The plotline is very good, somewhat predictable, but creative enough to make you wonder who and if you can trust some of the characters. The editing is stellar: no grammatical problems and the story flows well. There is a bit of confusing action near the end of the book, but I think Amazon just sent an update for the book that maybe fixes some of these things (I don't know for sure as I've not reread the book with the updates yet).
Typical of the genre also is the premise of an evil corporation creating biological weapons for the highest bidder. World domination and all that. Despite this standard zombie plot line the characters and well written suspense makes the novella interesting and engaging.
This novella is a good primer and wets the appetite for the next book in the series (which I've also read). The second book in the series can be read independent of this first book. I'm sure this book is to give you a taste for the series and it is worth the read.

Zombie Fever 1 Origins edition by BM Hodges Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Tomas is in the crap, right up to his eyebrows!! Good read. The main character Tomas is smart and likeable and the story premise rings true. I would recommend this book to anyone who loves a good conspiracy story. Also, zombies...need I say more?
This one was ok, it didn't really get into zombies very much. Just the background of the disease that starts it all, in the next book. The story was ok, it went into a little too much detail about the boy in the story, it just needs more ZOMBIES!!!
The story is pretty good, but it s o rely needs an editor's touch. There are grammatical errors on just about every page
This was an Ok read. It was fast paced with plenty of action, and who does't enjoy a story with a good conspiracy? I felt that the plot line was a little derivative (but then it's hard to be original with zombies I guess), but my big complaint is I found it hard to engage with any of the characters in the story, so in the end wasn't particularly concerned about who met a grisly end!
Well written, very well constructed, wish it had been longer. Another series starter with a great explanation about where the zombies came from, but no actual zombies wandering the streets looking for warm human flesh. Hope the next in the series is a graphic chomp fest. Enjoyed the authors efforts immensely. Very descriptive not just an outline. Worth reading.
This is a great book and beginning of a series. Unlike so many series being churned out lately, this book and the next one can each be read as separate books without being left completely in the dark or completely clueless about what is going on. This one is where it all begins, how the infection was created, and introduces you to the evil corporation that has not only been creating the infection but testing it. This story is about Tomas who goes to visit his father he hasn't seen in a while in order to get a fresh start on life. Little does he know just how different his life is about to become. This book was a bit short but it also includes a big excerpt from the second book, Zombie Fever 2 Outbreak.
A giant evil corporation is making zombies and only two people can take them down while using improvised weapons. Sound familiar? Oh yeah, that's the plot of Resident Evil! -P

What's crazier is that this "super corporation" which has infiltrated the world and has secret labs everywhere is infiltrated by a 20-something year old using jury-rigged technology that he made with a high school chemistry set. Yeah, that's really how I envision a global corporation that's infiltrated every aspect of our society.
Totally unrealistic. The only reason it was remotely interesting was that it reminded me of Resident Evil, and the earlier games in that series were some of my favorites in the zombie genre. Plus there is only one zombie in the whole story, so if you are getting this hoping to get some zombies, you can skip this one.

This just wasn't what I was hoping for.
